Integrated project-Maths 6C



     Second Term Integrated Project

Std: VI                                               Subject: Mathematics                                 Topic: Kabaddi


 NOTE:
 Students can do the project individually or in group and submit it on 04/03/2015 without fail.
Objective: To research and find out information on the sport ‘kabaddi’ and to represent it on a chart paper in the form of a bar graph.

Preparation prior to session:
·         Inform students that they will be making a project on ‘World Cup Kabaddi 2013’ in the next two sessions. Ask them to collect the information on the following points and keep it ready:
Ø  number of nations participated in the Men’s and Women’s tournament
Ø  number of nations in pool A and pool B of Men’s and Women’s tournament
Ø  points scored by the teams in pool A and pool B of Men’s and Women’s tournament
Ø  dimensions of the kabaddi court
·         Cut the four set of questions along the dotted lines and keep it ready before the next session. The set of questions are given at the end of this document. Make as many sets of question as the number of groups formed.

Materials Required:
a)      To be sourced out by the teacher:
Ø  card paper (A-2 size, 1 in no. for group of 4 students, light coloured)
b)     To be sourced out by the student:
Ø  pencil, eraser, sharpener, ruler, glue, scissors, pencil colour / crayons/ sketch pens

Procedure:
1.      Divide the class into groups such that there are 4 students in 1 group.
2.      Ask the groups to be ready with their materials and the collected information.
3.      Distribute 1 card paper and 1 set of questions to each group.
For example:
Group 1 – Set A
Group 2 – Set B
Group 3 – Set C
Group 4 – Set D
Group 5 – Set A and so on…….
4.      Ask students to write the following information on the card paper:
Ø  Std: ____________ and Div: ____________
Ø  Question Set: ______
Ø  Roll No. of all the students in a group: _______________
5.      Inform students that they have to represent the answers to the questions given in the question set on the card paper in the most creative manner.
6.      Also ask students to write the title for the project.
7.      Explain the following points to students to be kept in mind while drawing a bar graph:
v  two perpendicular lines to be drawn
v  name of the nations to be written below the horizontal line
v  points scored by the nations to be written on the left of the vertical line
v  each column is of equal width
v  equal space to be given between each column
(Note to teacher: Revise the formula to calculate area and perimeter of a square and a rectangle.)
8.      Assess students performance using the following criteria:

Drawing a neat bar graph and representing the correct information on it.

Writing the name of the nations that qualified for the semi-finals and identifying the nations that won the World Cup 2013.
1  mark
Representing the dimensions of the kabaddi court in the form of diagram
2 marks
(Note to teacher: Marks to be given only if the diagram represents a rectangular field. If the dimensions are mentioned correctly but the diagram is in square shape then no marks are to be given.)
Finding area and perimeter of the court with correct units.
2 marks
Working effectively in a team
1 mark
Over all neatness and creativity
1 mark
